Yayoi Kusama is a contemporary Japanese artist. She is famous for her immersive installations, sculptures, paintings, and performances. The artist is known for her obsession with polka dots. Kusama is now one of the most influential and respected artists in the world of art.
Born in 1929 in Matsumoto, Japan, Kusama grew up in a conservative family that disapproved of her passion for art. She studied oil painting at the Kyoto School of Arts, but was quickly drawn to the artistic avant-garde of Tokyo. In 1957, she moved to New York. She then began to create her works influenced by the minimalist art movement and popular art.

She was also the first female artist to represent Japan at the Venice Biennale in 1993. In 2012, Yayoi Kusama collaborated with the luxury brand Louis Vuitton to create a collection of ready-to-wear, accessories, and leather goods. This collaboration was a huge success, sparking a global craze for products adorned with her famous polka dot motifs.
In 2023, the artist signed a new collaboration with Louis Vuitton and invested two Parisian boutiques: On the Champs-Elysées with her monumental installation, where she is discovered in XXL format, decorating the iconic building of the brand. And on Place Vendôme, where a robot version of herself continuously draws her signature polka dots on the storefront.
Yayoi Kusama thus signs a collaboration entitled “Creating Infinity” with the leather goods brand Louis Vuitton for a capsule collection of over 400 pieces.
